Mermay Magic

A Month of Mermaids & Blooming Wonders

In May we celebrate Mermaids in the gardens and Museum, and the flowering Rhododendrons and bluebells.

In May the saltwater mermaids migrate from the coast through the underground rivers, swimming up to Grimshaws water to trade with the water folk and fairies and celebrate their shared heritage. Speculation is that mermaids visit during May to see the spring flowers blossoming in the woodland garden – a rare sight for them.

Salt water mermaids will bring lots of items from the sea to trade with the fairies and water folk, beautiful shells and corals especially. In return the fairies and water folk will trade beautiful jewellery and other pieces they have crafted for them.

Under Grimshaw’s Water, the lake within the gardens, lies a marvellous  underground city, home to the tiny freshwater mermaids  – just out of sight below the surface.

Ruins have been built up over hundreds of years, temples, palaces and spires are made from shells, coral and other ocean debris. Some of these relics (both original and reconstructed) are on display in our museum.

Visit the museum to discover relics from the lost underwater city, including ancient shells, coral-crafted ruins, and mermaid treasures.

Step Into a Living Fairytale. Immerse yourself in a world where mermaids, fairies, and water folk exist in harmony, set against the backdrop of blooming bluebells and rhododendrons.
