The Dreamery gardens, Englands Lost fairy Gardens, are open all year but depending on the season not every day of the week.   This is ideal for you if  you are interested in mythology, nature and the seasons,  storytelling, gardens, celebrations, and who want to escape the normal daily world for a few hours.  

This is not ideal for you if you want more traditional gardens with flower borders, and are not interested in the quirky and whimsical. 

Englands Lost Fairy Gardens is a Trail of the imagination, re discovering the work of Victorian Professor Howland.  Dragons nests, fairy houses and doors, Pans Tavern, Jenny Greenteeths house, the Maze, grottoes, mermaids, with stories, lights and sounds along the way, and of course the Fairy Museum, and marvellous Dreamery Kitchen….. Gardens within the woodland are being developed as we discover more about previously lost records and information.

Imagine arriving…..explore 50 acres of woodland and gardens within gardens, discover fairy houses, search for dragons, trolls  and mermaids, find hidden doors, enjoy lunch or a drink in the dreamery woodland kitchen, let children run free, discover seasonal grottoes, pans tavern, the gifting door, get lost in the maze, visit Englands Fairy Museum and the rediscovery of professor Howlands work with stories.  (depending on which ticket you get you may also be taken on a guided tour ..)

But what this really means is a chance to leave everyday life behind, to feel wonder again, a magical day together, to connect with nature and slower calmer moments.  Escape, relax and enjoy the magic.

A typical visit takes anywhere between 1.5 hours and 5 hours depending on whether you read every story board, get lost in the maze, have lunch and enjoy the Dreamery kitchen. 

Includes over 100 fairy houses, maze, dragons nests, giants swords, grottoes, soundscapes, lights (at certain times of year) mushroom fairy rings, mermaids, seasonal displays, gardens, café and museum.  Escape the real world for a few hours and relax and refresh yourself.

We do NOT have a postcode as we do not receive post at the gardens.   There is free parking, toilets,  and the Dreamery woodland café.  Uunder 3’s are free, Dogs on leads are welcome, no queues, relaxed pace…

Most of the gardens are outside however it is mostly under trees, and there is the museum and café with veranda under cover.

Well behaved dogs are welcome on the trail on a lead. Please clear up any dog mess. Dogs are not allowed in the café but are welcome on the veranda and in the marquee in the café courtyard.

We’ve done our best to make the trail suitable for wheelchair users, however it is a stoned wild woodland track, which can get muddy and rutted.

The Gardens are primarily an outside experience and kids love being outside whatever the weather – and it’s great for them! But please wrap up if it’s chilly or wet and please wear appropriate footwear.

Yes – we’re a small attraction so at the moment we only take bookings online, so we can better manage the numbers and car parking.

Oh yes! We take our coffee very, very seriously – it’s delicious, organic and fairly traded. We also have a great range of locally sourced food and snacks available in our woodland Kitchen.

The Woodland Guardians will not allow us to have Wifi in the sanctuary and they do sometimes interfere with the generally good phone signal! We encourage everyone to have some real world fun at the sanctuary and check their emails and social media at home.

Sorry but absolutely not, however we do allow smoking in the Woodland Kitchen courtyard – we are passionate about keeping the woodland as pristine as possible and take every precaution against forest fires.

Sadly not! The many and varied woodland critters attracted by food mean we don’t allow picnicking in the woods, however we do have a Woodland Kitchen serving food as well as drinks and of course ice creams – we ask everyone to be vigilant about littering.

I’m afraid the fun police don’t allow us to have bikes on the trail – you can cycle to us though.

Of course – we have noticed that the Dreamery Gardens appeal as much to adults as children and is a wonderful place to enjoy nature, revel in the adorable fairy displays and get a fantastic cup of organic coffee.

Well we’re British, and so we plough on regardless. The trees provide a lot of shelter and there are also some rain shelters around the sanctuary – however we encourage everyone to develop an appreciation of the woodland whatever the weather. Also, it smells just heavenly after the rain…

Absolutely – Northwood fairies aren’t pink and glittery if that’s what you’re worried about. We are a genuine fairy sanctuary and thus look after a wide range of fairy species, which should appeal to both genders.

We have the fairy museum – full of fascinating fairy artefacts, but definitely more of a looking than playing space. The Woodland Kitchen is a great place to cosy up in bad weather though and we have a covered veranda surrounding the café. We notice kids love to play outside whatever the weather – we have an outside play area.
